Senior Hardware Engineer
Narragansett Imaging is searching for a high-energy Senior Hardware Design Engineer who will positively impact our entrepreneurial Camera Module division that is in high-growth mode. The person will be responsible for the design and development of custom cameras and camera modules using CCD and CMOS image sensors from a variety of manufacturers. The successful candidate will be a team player who is able to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and who can work with minimal supervision developing high performance electronic products for digital imaging applications.
Knowledge of various image sensor architectures and their application is required. Ability to lead projects from creation to completion in conjunction with support personnel and colleagues such as purchasing, CAD professionals, technicians and assemblers is a must.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Expertise in CCD/CMOS image sensors and their application is required
- Design products using state of the art electronic components not limited to the following: DSP microprocessors, microcontrollers, digital camera microprocessors, FPGA devices, low voltage logic, DC/DC power supply devices, Analog Front End devices for image signal processing, low noise analog signal processing devices
- Implement camera related digital designs with CPLD design tools from a variety of vendors. Design products that will use industry standard data interfaces such as: Ethernet, USB2.0, camera link, IEE1394
- Create electronic schematic diagrams and assist in the layout of multilayer SMD/thru hole mixed signal PCB
- Assist in the creation of product test plans and implementation of automated testing
- Interface with marketing and customers as needed to assure products are built to meet the needs of the customer
- Provide technical support to customers and marketing through telephone contact and /or site installation visits if required
- Supervise the construction of debug and test prototype components and cameras
Requirements:
- BS in Electronic Engineering required
- 7+ Years experience in electronic design required
- Competency creating micro-controller / DSP firmware is required
- Working knowledge of PC based video and digital frame grabbers and their application is required
- Project management and supervisory experience preferred
- Proficiency with integrated development (design creation, capture, verification and simulation, implementation) is required.
- Higher level description language such as AHDL/VHDL a plus
- Basic knowledge of optics and standard lens formats

Firmware Engineer
Overall responsibility for the research, design, development, debug and test of the firmware required to operate NI’s CCD and CMOS digital cameras. These cameras are application specific and some require on board real-time image processing while others require the temporary storage of recorded video.
Minimum Requirements:
- 6-10 years of experience in firmware development for embedded devices
- Work with HW Engineers to define the electronics system architecture
- Extensive experience with FPGA design and implementation using VHDL
- Real-time control
- Hardware driver development for Windows/OSX/Linux (USB/Ethernet/etc.)
- FPGA development with Verilog or VHDL
- Strong hardware debugging skills
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a small development team
- Commitment to rigorous coding standards/documentation and testing practices
- Knowledge of source control systems like Source Safe, CVS, etc.
- Support transition of new products into manufacturing
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Education:
- BS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or similar field) required
- MS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or similar field) desired.
