Biometrics are automated methods of recognizing a person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristics. The leading imaging based biometric identifiers are fingerprints, hand geometry, palm-prints, facial recognition, iris scanning and retinal scanning. Each of these biometric identifiers has different requirement for the size, resolution and frame rate of the images to be acquired.

The field of biometrics is becoming increasingly important both in the US and around the world as governments seek to secure borders and facilities while enterprises look to better secure access to intellectual property. As well as these emerging applications, the long established law enforcement practice of identifying suspects by their fingerprints is rapidly moving away from ink to digital imaging.

Narragansett Imaging's focus is on high resolution, megapixel, CCD-cameras which are most likely to be applied in fingerprint and palm-print recognition. Recent FBI standards for these images are being widely accepted internationally meaning that high resolution imagers are becoming increasingly necessary in government and law enforcement applications.

The following Narragansett Imaging cameras are currently being used in, or are suitable for, high resolution biometrics applications. If you have a requirement for a camera with specifications that are not met in any of the cameras below then please select the Custom Development link below, contact Narragansett Imaging or your nearest representative.

FTM1010. 1 megapixel, 15 frames per second, frame transfer CCD-camera with true 12 bit output. The FTM1010 come as two PCBs allowing maximum flexibility in mechanical design.

ITC1612. 2 megapixel, 15 frames per second, CCD-camera with true 12 bit output. Interline transfer image sensor makes the ITC1612 ideal for applications with movement in the scene. Color and monochrome versions available. CameraLink interface.

ITC1910. 2 megapixel - HDTV format, 15 frames per second, CCD-camera with true 12 bit output. Interline transfer image sensor makes the ITC910 ideal for applications with movement in the scene. Color and monochrome versions available. CameraLink interface.

Custom Development. As well as the standard camera designs listed above, Narragansett Imaging also develops custom cameras with alternative sensor types, interfaces or mechanical dimensions.
